Finial Pieces

Computer Experiments

Whilst editing my shoots I experimented with some different techniques. I have placed them within one post to highlight some of the ways I adjusted my images to make them appear more interesting and unique.

Work Record- Shoot Three

Plans and expectations

For this shoot I plan to show how peoples possessions change from generation to generation. This is mainly due to technological development. For my shoot I will will look at how music has developed looking from great grand parents to me. I will photograph the different generations music collections and how they played them. I  also hope to show how possessions often get left to gather dust and what once meant so much to people is now often seen as a meaning less antique left in a loft.

Evaluations

I think this shoot was extremely successful and I am impressed with the results. For this shoot I created a studio set up at home, whilst Keeping a brick wall as my background. I felt this help to add texture to the images of which some were very plain.

I like the focus and different focal points within the image. The mixture of colours help to create a positive atmosphere for the images. However the damage shown within the individual records contrast this with neglect. This images helps to show how peoples old possessions which are considered outdated are left in a place which potentially damages them, for example a loft. Possessions are put to the side due to society and technological change. Although the shot setting show no flash this is because I had external light sources which are left on constant acting as studio lights. These helped to create the bright and detailed focus the image shows.

Although the dog is slightly blurred I am very happy with this image. I think by having the dog slightly blurred it shows the animals curiosity to this item and movement as it investigated there foreign object. This particular images is interesting as it relates to when the gramophone was around as the most recent technological development and popular. The makers of one partiular gramophone had a logo as shown to the left. This logo can be seen on the gramophone within the image. I find it interesting how the image can related to the time which this item was around and part of its history. The gramophone also shows a vast amount of dirt and dust showing how old the object is. The dog therefore could also represent how a younger person within todays society may be clueless as to what this is and when seeing it act similar to how the dog is, intrigued. The image to the right shows all camera and the images settings.

Progression

The idea of showing how possessions change through generation was very interesting to explore and enjoyable to shoot. If the resources was amiable to me I would create other series of images similar to this, showing how computers and memory storage has change or possibly how movie making and watching has changed and developed.

Work Record- Shoot Two

Plans and expectations for the shoot

For this shoot I planned to Take pictures based on a large video and DVD collection. I hope to show how people collect items and are proud of certain collects, in this case a large DVD and video collection.

Evaluations

I found myself lost for some ideas with this shoot. I think it become repetitive and I ended up struggling to take interesting images.

For this images I decide to create an animation from it to height the disney videos on the middle row. I like the patterns and symmetry expressed within this image. The animation aspect of the image helps to provide a interesting focal point for the image. Showing a variety of colours help to keep a positive and childish atmopshere

I like how the videos create a reflection on the wall. The unevenness of the videos show how not everything has to be perfect to work. As the videos all stand up however they are not all at the same angle or position. This demonstrates how they all work together to achieve a main goal. Linking to how within society everyone is different and helps within a different way to achieve a larger goal.

Progression

I felt as if I kept repeating my self within this hot therefore if i was to develop or recreate this shoot  would find more interesting ways to display the videos and dvd's.

Work Record- Shoot One

Plans and expectations

For this shoot I planned to take a variety of photos based on one persons different collections. Showing what they may have collected over the years. I will use a males possessions for this particular shoot as I have explored women's within my unit and wish to develop onto males. This will hopefully display a contrast.

Evaluations

Overall I was not happy with this particular shoot. I feel that I did produce some good images however the majority of photos which I took was of poor quality. I believe this was mainly due to my camera settings and the lighting of where I shot them. However the photos which I was pleases with clearly represents people and possessions. Within the shoot I showed how a boy developed from toys to game consoles. Showing how people possesses may change as they grow and develop.

I like how this animation has been created and I am pleased with the smooth transition from one image to another. The animation shows a feature of the item moving. I think there is one thing within this image however that effects the image, this being the chair leg in the background. At the time I was aware of it being so close however I didn't not realise how it would effect the image until I started editing. Although this unwanted feature is within the image, I am happy with the surrounding which I placed the item in. For this shoot I did not wish to shoot them within the studio. I like how the background of the image helps to show how a child would play with their toys on the floor in the middle of everything. An interpretation of the animated feature could show how it is warning people not to go near. Children leave small or large toys laying around in places where people tend to step on and hurt themselves. Considering that the gun is animated and a gun represents danger it could show how it is making people aware of a child's toy which they could trip on. The image to the left shows all my camera data and settings. I think the ISO setting should have been adjusted to closer 200.

I created this particular montage of images to represent a collection of games. I felt that an image with all the games layer out in a similar manner may be boring therefor I decided to use this technique.  By using this certain technique it changes the style of the image. The game boxes overlap showing each game twice, creating a distort look. I cannot comment on the specific camera setting for this image as it consist of different images which have have involved slightly different settings.

Progression

If I was to carry out another shoot similar to this I would place the items in a surrounding they was being used. For example, for the toys I would show a child playing with them in a back garden then a boy sitting indoors in the dark playing game consoles. Showing the change in children's behaviour and society due to technological development.
